Golf is a major reason why people flock to the Grand Strand. Due to its inland location, Conway has a fair number of golf courses. Here are just a few of the Conway golf courses:
Conway Country Club is one of the oldest. This course offers nine holes with 2908 yards. This course is close to downtown Conway and is open to the public. It is an affordable option for those who want to run the course on a budget. Many like the fact that you can get a round of golf in during the morning.
Quail Creek Golf Club is a full 18-hole golf course that offers 6812 yards of challenging game. The course is the design of Gene Hamm and opened in 1967. The course is close to Coastal Carolina University. The greens are Bermuda grass and offer a 126 slope rating. Despite its age, it remains a popular course with locals as well as visitors. The wide fairways and beautiful greens offer a challenging game to players of all skill levels.
The Witch Golf Links is a newer member of the Conway golf courses designed by Dan F. Maples, which opened in 1989. The course covers over 500 acres and sits between Conway and Myrtle Beach. With 18 holes, the longest tees offer 6702 yards. Many review this course as challenging and well worth the time to play. The course lies in a natural wetland. To traverse the course, the designer put in bridgework that takes the golfer through the woods to each hole.
The Burning Ridge Golf Course offers 18 holes of golf with a par of 72. This is another course designed by Gene Hamm. The doors opened in 1980. The course offers 6780 yards from the longest tees. In 2006, this course earned the title of South Carolina Golf Course of the Year. The challenge lies in the large sand traps and undulating fairways. It provides a good game for experienced players as well as those just getting started.
Shaftesbury Glen Golf and Fish Club offer 18 holds on 6935 yards. The design for this course came from Clyde B. Johnston. It opened for business in 2001. This member of the Conway golf courses provides a distinctly traditional look. However, it definitely plays as a modern course. It offers A-12 Bent greens and wide fairways. It made the nomination list for the Best New Public Course in America. This fantastic course gives fun short games and fantastic long shots.
